Life update: Weekend eats, baby's ORD

Over the weekend some very exciting things happened.
My baby finally finished 2 years of National Service!!!!!!!! 👏
Thank you for inviting me to your ORD parade, such an honour to be a part of this milestone of yours. Although I wasn't there with you when you first enlisted, I am glad to finish this one with you (aka no more semi long distance relationships!!!!).

It was also an honour to finally visit the camp that you've been telling me about... and to meet the friends who have been on this arduous journey with you. Proud of you bb.
You made it.

💂

I honestly think if I were in their shoes... I would start bawling my eyes out just because its been such an incredible journey for them... made up of so many dreadful and hopeful days - All spent with a group of people you first call mates, then brothers.

I will never be able to fully comprehend what they go through in National Service, but I think I can understand the kind of friendship and bond formed over some difficult 2 years (or a year).

So good job to all the guys out there serving NS!!!
Also please feel free to sit on the train because you deserve it :-)
(singaporeans you know what I'm talking about)

In case nobody remembers:

THIS HAPPENED. This was 3 years back when Stomp did their trashy articles. I don't know if Stomp is still alive but I think they deleted this article after backlash?

So the above is a screenshot from theonlinecitizen.com who had this to say about Stomp's post:
"From reporting a false story in 2012, to its xenophobic reports in 2013, the Straits Times’ portal – STOMP – now looks to cast aspersions on our NSmen with an inaccurate and unfair report."
The truth was... it wasn't the NS men who did not give up his seat for the elderly. The photo was cropped such that it seemed like it. In an actual photo, it showed that there was an empty reserved seat, and the grandma just chose to stand.

IT WASN'T THE NS MEN'S FAULT.

If Stomp is dead, lets give a minute of silence not for them but for all the poor Singaporeans who had their privacy invaded and were stomped AND for all the NS men who dare not sit on the train for fear of being stomped. Most ridiculous thing ever. If someone has to be on the seats, it should be the people serving the nation, people cleaning our estates, people building our homes and the pioneer generation (although they can sometimes be spawns of satan) who made Singapore who she is today.

Note: Blease don't do shameless things in public if you don't wanna get photographed? Public shaming is a thing people you can't stop noseyparkers from taking photographs or videos but you can watch your own behaviour.

And that is all for my happy-ORD-turned-short-rant-on-NS Men-rights.

NOW moving on to more important things:

From today onwards I will be doing a short segment called / WEEKEND EATS / (mostly with my baby or with my friends) because it is a universal fact that EVERYONE loves food!!! I think food is the true peace loving religion the world needs. So every weekend if I am eating out I will be taking photos of my food LOL because we could all use a little food porn every now and then.

So this weekend we had Nam Nam for lunch and Tim Ho Wan for dinner :-)

ITS my first time trying NAM NAM and I have had PHO cravings FOR SO LONG FINALLY yesterday I popped the cherry for pho!!!

We both got the "classic" on the menu: Chicken Pho for $9.90.

And two cups of Viet coffee (also my first time trying) - one black, one with milk. Honestly? The taste was average? Perhaps because we ordered the ICED coffee so by the time we started getting into our drinks it is already diluted :-)

But even for the pho, I will give it a rating of 6.5/10? The first thing I told Lawrann was that "It looks like we could actually cook these ourselves? Just buy some kway teow and chicken bits and get the broth going and we can call it a pho too?"

And honestly it taste just like that.

I will not deny it is a quick fix for when you are craving soup and kway teow (MY FAVOURITE) but it is overhyped. Nevertheless, great service. Great ambience. Great counter bar seats we had which provided us with a variety of sauces that we might wanna add into our dishes:

Good point mentioned by Lawrann: "They don't have instructions/recommendations on which sauce we should add to our dishes?"

Also if you need a little something zesty here's a bowl of limes for your pho broth.

I AM RATING NAM NAM 6.5/10 for food.
8/10 for ambience.
8/10 for service.

Now our visit to Tim Ho Wan was just for a quick dinner before we went drinking. We ordered the usuals, and I am sure all of us vaguely know the price range for this? Definitely below $10 for each dish. It's a Dim Sum restaurant, SO its perfect for dim sum lovers since they serve dim sums for the whole day.

We ordered carrot cake, Har Gow and a bowl of century egg with chicken/pork(?) porridge and lets just say the PORRIDGE WAS FANTASTIC.

In Lawrann's words: "You can't even taste the grains of rice." Its amazing how smooth the porridge is... perfect for little kids or the elderly.

These were unplanned and very last minute so unfortunately I wasn't able to get more information or bring my camera out. I only have very few photos... and with subpar photo quality.

BUT I promise for the next WEEKEND EATS it will be better 😉

P/s: still working on my Cancer style post BUT IT WILL BE OUT SOON

but but but but buts no excuses. STAY TUNED
